Getting to Know Bellbrook, OH
Located south of Dayton, the City of Bellbrook was laid out in 1816 in Greene County. The community derives its name, Bellbrook, as a combination of the names of the Little Sugar Creek and one of the town’s founders, Stephen Bell. The city’s post office, originally called Bell Brook, was first established in 1817. However, in 1895, the name was made into one to its current spelling as Bellbrook.
Originally a village, Bellbrook expanded like most cities, via annexation. Much of it’s new land came from Sugarcreek Township. The first annexation was in 1970, and it helped swell the municipality’s population to more than 5,000 residents. Eventually, in 1974, Bellbrook attained the status of a city. Because there were large amounts of undeveloped land at the time, the city had more than 1,000 housing units built on it since that annexation. As a result, today Bellbrook is highly developed with little room for future development. The population today is more than 7,300 residents. Each year in April, the city has a Sugar Maple Festival. In August of every year, there’s the Lions Club Festival.
